Remodel a kitchen that actually works for how you cook, eat, and move through your home every day.
Most kitchen remodels begin with a specific frustration: not enough counter space, a layout that makes two people dodge each other, or cabinets that are always full but never have what you need. The kitchen works against you instead of with you.
What most homeowners do not realize until they are already into it is how many systems live inside a kitchen. The plumbing, electrical, ventilation, and structure all have to be reworked together when the layout changes. Pull a wall out without accounting for what is carrying the load above it, and you have a much bigger project than you planned. Move the sink without checking the drain slope, and you are cutting into the floor. These are not rare problems. They are what happens when the planning does not happen up front.
At C-U Under Construction, we work with homeowners across Central Illinois as a kitchen remodeling contractor focused on getting those decisions right before work starts. We handle everything from full gut remodels and open concept conversions to cabinet replacements and kitchen additions. Our in-house plumbing and electrical trades work alongside the build team from the start, so the layout, systems, and finishes are planned as one project rather than handed off to contractors who have never spoken to each other.
A lot of the homes we work on in Champaign, Urbana, Savoy, and surrounding areas were built 40 or 50 years ago. Older kitchens often have panels that were not sized for modern appliances, plumbing that has never been touched, and ventilation that does not actually go anywhere useful. We find those things during planning, not after the walls are already open. Contact us today to schedule a consultation and start your kitchen remodel with confidence.

A look at kitchen remodels completed for homeowners across Central Illinois.
Here is what we actually plan and coordinate so the finished kitchen works the way you need it to.
We plan around how the space is actually used, where two people cook at once, where groceries land, how the room connects to the rest of the house.
Opening up a kitchen requires working out load-bearing structure, beam sizing, and what sits above the space before anything comes down.
Cabinet layout, drawer configurations, pantry space, and island storage are planned before materials are ordered so the finished kitchen actually has room for everything.
Sink locations and drain routing are planned before the floor goes down, especially in older homes where moving plumbing gets complicated fast.
Circuits are sized for modern appliance loads early in the process, including panel updates if the existing service cannot support the new kitchen.
Range hood exhaust routing is planned before cabinets go in so ventilation actually works instead of recirculating air inside the cabinet above the range.
Countertops cannot be templated until cabinets are set, so finishes are scheduled in the right order from the start.
The work order is planned to keep trades moving efficiently and avoid the stalled gaps that push a kitchen remodel from six weeks to twelve.
Kitchens are out of use longer than most rooms during a remodel, so we plan around temporary setups and work zones to keep the disruption manageable.

They were so pleasant and friendly and really cleaned up nicely afterward. All the CU Under Construction people are fabulous!!!Posted on Kay PTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. We recently bought a home that was built in the 1970s. The kitchen was in desperate need of an update. We decided to hire CU Under Construction immediately after our first meeting with the sales rep, Chad. There was no doubt this was a top notch company. Chad was phenomenal throughout the process. Our kitchen update was extensive involving removal of an external wall, a half bath, laundry room, dining room and a 2-room large kitchen. They also removed all of our baseboard heaters and installed a new furnace. Jarrod was assigned as our project manager. He was truly amazing. He communicated with us frequently throughout the project and always responded to us promptly. Given the magnitude of this project, there were many moving parts. Jarrod never missed a beat. He always knew the status of the project. Everyone involved in this project was extremely competent and professional. We didn’t encounter one issue through the process. It was truly seamless. Emily, the project assistant, worked with me one on one to pick out everything including the flooring, countertops all the way down to the handles on the doors. She was truly a gem. There were several selections I had to make that caused me great anxiety. With her extensive experience in this field, she was very familiar with all the various product options and would talk me through my selections quickly minimizing my stress. I honestly cannot say enough about Shaun and Corbin, the carpenters. These two guys were so easy to work with and extremely knowledgeable. Their carpentry skills are outstanding. There were several times throughout the project that they were faced with complicated issues that required the skill set of a craftsman. Without any hesitation, these two would put their heads together and figure it out. We couldn’t have been more impressed. Greg, the electrician, was also simply incredible. He was very personable, professional and competent. He was always thinking 10 steps ahead when working on our project. We really enjoyed working with him. Lastly, there are so many folks at CU Under Construction that made our kitchen remodel a success and too many to mention. Everyone we worked with was knowledgeable, professional and respectful. Our kitchen is more beautiful than we could have ever imagined. If you’re looking for a construction company to do a project for you, give them a call. You will not be disappointed. Thank you to everyone at CU Under Construction—we LOVE our new kitchen.Posted on Faye cTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Mark was on top of things to check on the progress of the workers. They were all great! They were definitely great workers that put all their effort into a good job. Our new roof is wonderful!Posted on Mike WTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. Three years ago, we had C-U Under Construction remediate a major insurance claim on our condo. The unit above ours had a burst washing machine hose that steadily pumped water down to our unit. It was raining inside! C-U worked seamlessly with our insurance company and the other unit involved. Excellent work! Very professional! Fast-forward to today. We sold the condo and the buyers is asking us to look at an area of concern. Mike Randolph was out there the next day and quickly provided a professional assessment using the latest technology. To top it off, C-U did not charge for the assessment. Top notch! Recommendation: Hire this group for your next project!Posted on Janet CTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. CU Under Construction contributed greatly to a project at our office building in Savoy. The quality of work was excellent, and they shifted schedules around so that the work could get done within our timeframe. The painters were precise and professional. The carpet installers were great at their craft and willing to work over the weekend to get ahead on the project. The project manager was very responsive to my needs and questions. I would highly recommend working with CU Under Construction!Posted on Henry wTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. When you hire a contractor who subs out the plumbing and electrical, those trades show up when they are available, work off whatever information they were given, and leave. If the layout changed since they got their instructions, that is usually nobody’s problem until it becomes your problem.
We have been remodeling kitchens across Central Illinois for more than 20 years. Our plumbing and electrical trades are in-house, which means the people doing that work were part of the planning conversation from the start. That is also why our work comes with a 3-year workmanship warranty.
If water quality is worth looking at before or after the remodel, C-U Trade Services — our HVAC, plumbing, and electrical branch — offers free water testing and whole-home water treatment. Hard water is common throughout Central Illinois and shortens the life of new fixtures and appliances if it goes unaddressed.

A kitchen remodel involves a lot of decisions. Talking through the layout and systems early helps avoid the ones that cost the most to fix later.
